Living While Dying
The Scripture tells us that it is appointed unto each of us a time to die. It’s a truth that we don’t like to think about, but it is truth nonetheless. When we’re young we don’t consider death because we’re too busy with life. As we age and our physical life on this planet, under the curse, begins to take its toll, we begin think about our mortality a bit more. And if we find ourselves face to face with death, in a situation that looks like our death is imminent, we have to face our final enemy.
The Apostle Shaul, writing in 1st Corinthians Chapter Fifteen, Verse Twenty-Five, speaking of Messiah’s victory, said the last enemy to be conquered is death. We know that the Master Yahusha overcame death, hell and the grave. All the while He lived on the earth, as a man, as you and I do, subject to all the effects of the same curse of sin and death that our bodies deal with, He knew that He was going to die. He walked in the “land of the shadow of death,” and He conquered death!
Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 9:2 says, “ The people who were walking in darkness have seen a great light; upon those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death a light has shone.” Yohanan (John) writes, in his Yohanan Chapter One, that Yahusha our Master is the Light who came into our world, and is the Light of men. He to light the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
David was no stranger to thoughts of mortality. His life was filled with people wanting to kill him, while dealing with his own life of missing the mark (sin) and consequences of choices that he had made. In his many Psalms David anguishes, cries, and ultimately falls back on His Master, Creator as His hope.
Psa 23:1 יהוה is my shepherd; I do not lack.
Psa 23:2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters.
Psa 23:3 He turns backa my being; He leads me in paths of righteousness For His Name’s sake. Footnote: aOr He converts.
Psa 23:4 When I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil. For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
Psa 23:5 You spread before me a table in the face of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup runs over.
Psa 23:6 Only goodness and loving-commitment follow me All the days of my life; And I shall dwell in the House of יהוה, To the length of days!
David is talking about living while dying! He’s talking about something that we now have in greater measure than he had. He chose to live while dying, before the One who conquered death had come as foretold, believing while looking forward to Him. But, for us, He has come and is victorious! We have been shone a great Light. The Light has come into the world, and He has conquered death, hell, and the grave. We are now His body on this planet. We are alive in Him, and He in us! We are light in Him. And we live because He lives. Master Yahusha said that those who believe in Him will never die! Our physical body is dying. We can’t stop it. We can be detriment to this body. We can sicken it by our choices. We can break it by our choices. That is all sin! We are not to destroy this body that we’ve been gifted with, but be stewards of it, and live in it, to the esteem of The Master, and Father Yah. We need to live while dying!
When faced with the imminence of His death, the Master prayed, “if it be possible that this cup pass from me… but let Your will be done.” He didn’t surrender to death. He didn’t give in to death. He surrendered to Father Yah, overcame death, and lived.Brothers and sisters, we who believe in Master Yahusha, and His Father, who know Them as Master and Father; we who have a love for The Truth; we are not to surrender to death! We are to surrender to the desire of our Father, who loves us, and whose every thought toward us is goodness. We are to surrender to the One who sent His only son to die and conquer death hell and the grave that we might live in Him, also as overcomers of death hell and the grave.
Yes, we, like David, walk in “the valley of the shadow of death.” But, notice that David said “walk!” He didn’t say lay down and give up in the shadow of death. He said that he walked in that shadow. But look at all that he wrote. Yah spreads a table before him, and his cup runs over, his head is anointed with oil, goodness and loving commitment followed him, and he dwelt in the “House of Yah!” And this was before Messiah came and overcame death, resurrected, and now has given us of His new life! We are people of great hope!
Yes, this body is going to die. We have to face that. But what about living? What consumes us? Is the fight to prevent what we can’t prevent keeping us from living? Again, I don’t want to be misunderstood. This is important that you hear! I’m not saying you give in to death and give up on life. I’m saying quite the opposite. We are to live this new life we have in Messiah our Master, knowing that the body we have is dying, but we are alive in Him forevermore. We have a future, and we have right now!
Don’t give up! Surrender to the desire of our Father!
Don’t give up and give in to what Messiah has already conquered. Believe in Him and live, right now! That means feeding your innermost being with the manna that came down from Heaven, the Word of life. As a result of believing in Him and His Truth, you then walk in it. Eat what is good, what He calls food. Renounce and refuse to ingest what He has said is not food, and is an abomination. His word says what is food and what is not. Both in what we put in our stomach, and what we take in with our eyes, into our heart and mind, is clearly given in Scripture, as His what He gave us to take in, contrasted with what He calls an abomination. Truth versus lie! Do you believe Him? Take in only what is Truth, and renounce and reject the lies, in all their many representations. Live! Live! Live! Live the life He has victoriously supplied for us through His death and resurrection. Walk as He walked, by submitting to the mind of Messiah, our head, who loves His own body, and nourishes it to life! So nourish your life, as He desires, and live, right here, right now, to His esteem, looking to the prize of the final victory set before us! Live while dying!
