Change – Another Word for Repentance and שׁוּב

Posted on Posted in Torah Blog

Change. It’s a word that most human beings don’t like to consider. But it is always happening in our lives, for better or for worse. Are our changes making us more like Yahshua, our Master, or are we being molded into the image of men?

Change, in the positive, according to The Instruction/Torah of Yahweh, is the reality of repentance. In the Hebrew it is shuwb, pronounced shüv.

shüv (Key)
The word is used 1,066 times from Bereshith/Genesis, to Malaki/Malachi. It means to turn, specifically, to turn back. It’s a directional issue. When you’re headed in any direction away from the Faithful One, Yahweh, who keeps His Promise and keeps His Covenant with man, one must turn back, change directions and follow Him. He is Yahweh. And the Way to follow Him, is only through The Way, The Truth, and The Life, Yahshua HaMaschiach (the Messiah, anointed One of Elohim).
In today’s expression of  Christianity and Messianic Judaism, at large, we see many paths, or ways, to obey, or observe the Commandments. It is as Shaul/Paul writes in 2nd Corinthians. There are those of Apollo, those of Paul, and those of Kepha, etc. Today, it is those of Methodism, Catholicism, Protestantism, Rico Cortes, Monte Judah, the rabbinics of Judaism and messianic Judaism, teachers like Chuck Smith, Greg Laurie, John Hagee, Chuck Swindoll, and on and on the list goes. Each one has heaped a teacher, or several teachers to tickle their ears. Simply put, I will find one who will say what my flesh wants to hear so I don’t have to change directions.
Changing Appetite
The reality is that we are constantly changing by following our changing appetites. But our appetite is the problem, as Shaul states in Philippians Chapter 3:18-19.

18For many – of whom I have often told you, and now say to you even weeping – walk as enemies of the stake of Messiah.

19Their end is destruction, their mighty one is their stomach, and their esteem is in their shame – they mind the earthly. (ISR Bible Hub)

Our appetite changes as we walk through life. We get tired of what we have, and want new, we want more, and our appetite is never satiated. So we are changing with every wind that blows, and every new thing. What we need to follow is that which is unchanging. We need to follow the One who never changes. He is Yahweh, and He begins and completes the work of faith in and through each of us. This is the more excellent Way of Love. Yahweh is Love, therefore Yahshua is Love, and the Set Apart Spirit is Love, and the Instructions are Loving Instructions, which is the Standard for change. This is why Yahshua said, “If you love Me, keep My Commandments.” Which are Yahweh’s Commandments, as Yahshua and Father Yahweh are One!

The Standard for change is the same, as He is the same. As we submit, He works change in us, making us into the very image of our Master, Yahshua HaMaschiach. It’s a constant change – a constant course correction, and it is only as we submit to the True Head of The True Body (if, indeed, we are born again, from above, and are a part of His True Body), and allow Him to direct our way. By the way, our way, is His Way – Messiah, if we submit our appetites to Him. We will steadily change walk more and more as He walked.

This only happens in turning back and entering into the New Covenant in the blood of Messiah. This is the Only Way, and the Only Truth, and the Only entrance into Life.  The other ways are death, because they are lies! We must reject all other ways; the direction of men who speak their own words, and a changed course, in them, that leads to themselves, or to other men who have gone before. Theirs is another way!

Something to consider today….
